Your Business Needs Anchors, Not Handcuffs
Consistency isn’t about doing the same thing forever. It’s about knowing which promises matter enough to keep — and creating enough stability to give yourself room to move.
This letter marks 195 Mondays in a row that I’ve sent the Biz Love Letter. Which sounds like a lesson in discipline.
But it isn’t.
Because I certainly have not spent 195 Monday mornings leaping out of bed filled with motivation, opening Kajabi with a flourish and thinking, “YES. Love letter time.” (Also, my perimenopausal body has zero capacity to ‘leap’ anywhere, especially before coffee.)
Some weeks the words have come easily.
Some weeks they absolutely have not.
But somewhere along the weeks, this stopped being something I had to convince myself to do. It became a promise. And I think we misunderstand consistency when we make it about motivation.
“I need to be more disciplined.”
“I need to feel more motivated.”
“I need to get better at sticking to things.”
No.You need to decide which promises matter enough to keep.
Consistency is not rigidity
Consistency is not doing the same thing forever. It is keeping the promises that still matter.
The Female CEO has changed enormously across those 195 weeks. I’ve changed. What we talk about here has changed. But every Monday, this letter lands.
That’s the anchor. And your business needs anchors, not handcuffs.
The right routines should not make you rigid. They should give you room to move.
Room to experiment.
Room to change your mind.
Room to follow an opportunity you didn’t plan for.
Room to walk into a completely different room and see what happens.
Because when some parts of your business are dependable, every new idea doesn’t have to carry the full weight of the business on its back. You can try things without starting again, evolve without unravelling everything underneath you and be dependable without becoming predictable.
Build the anchor. Keep the freedom.
This Biz Love Letter is one of my anchors. At the time of writing, I’m getting ready to head to Ideas Fest. I don’t know who I’ll meet, what I’ll hear or what ideas I’ll bring home (I did remember to get my new business cards printed though).
Perfect.
Because consistency should not make your world smaller. It should make you secure enough to explore more of it.
So ask yourself: What promise in your business is worth keeping?
Not because you feel motivated or because somebody told you consistency is the secret to success.
Because it matters.
Build the anchor. Then give yourself room to move.
