The Sunday Reset: Why Old Energy Doesn't Belong in a New Week
It is, as of right now, Monday morning.
I have a coffee. I have a clean house. My car (named Elizabeth Taylor) is gleaming inside AND out, which, if you've ever caught a glimpse of my back seat on a normal week, you'll understand is essentially a category-five event. The laundry is done and actually put away, not in the pile-on-the-chair stage, not in the folded-but-stacked-on-the-bed
And I feel pretty good.
Not in a "I posted about my 5am routine" way. In a genuinely-in-my-body, ready-for-this-week way.
This is The Sunday Reset. And I want to tell you about it.
For a long time I've had a bit of a complicated relationship with Sundays. The first half was always lovely. Slow mornings and maybe a beach walk, but around 3pm the scaries would arrive. That low-level hum of everything unfinished, everything I’ve got to remember in the coming week, and the general sense that Monday was creeping up behind me, glasses on the end of her nose with a clipboard.
By Sunday night, I was already tired from the week I hadn't actually started yet.
You might know this feeling. You arrive on Monday already behind. Still carrying last week. It's mess, it's unresolved things, it's energetic weight sitting in the background of everything like a browser tab you can't quite find to close.
It's not the stuff. It's what the stuff costs you to navigate around it. Every pile of washing you're mentally logging. Every surface you're cooking around rather than at. Every time you get in the car and clock the chaos in the back seat and feel (just a tiny bit) like you've lost control of something.
It all siphons just a little bit of you.
So I asked myself: what if Sunday was actually for me?
Enter: The Sunday Reset.
I want to be clear here that I am not a 5am morning-routine, discipline-kind-of woman, and this is not an overhaul. There is no 5am alarm, no colour-coded planner, no adaptogen smoothie (nothing against them; I just need you to know the barrier to entry here is low). This is a deliberate walk around the edges of my world, making them right before the new week starts.
For me, right now, that looks like: laundry done and put away. Car cleaned inside and out. House cleaned and properly tidied - not shoved-into-cupboards tidied, actually tidied. Garden sorted. And, because The Rest Test has me taking restoration seriously in ways I didn't before, a round of EFT tapping.
For those of you going EFT, what now — Emotional Freedom Technique. You tap on specific meridian points on your face and body while processing whatever's stuck. I understand this can sound a little unhinged when written down like that, and I say it anyway, because it works, and I've done it enough now to notice the difference (Thank you, Gala Darling).
All of this sounds great, but if we've been friend for a while you already know its not about vanity metrics or showboating around here, so here’s what I think is actually happening.
It's not about having a tidy house. It's not about the car. It's about the message you send yourself when you take care of your environment and space.
I matter enough to come home to something nice. My week matters enough to set up with intention. I am not someone who just survives until Friday - I'm someone who chooses how I begin.
That ↑ is an identity shift.
The EFT does the same thing internally; it clears out what accumulated from the week before, the stress that built up in the background, the tension I wasn't consciously aware of, and drops me into Sunday evening feeling genuinely light. Not performing calm. Actually calm.
When you reset your space, you reset your state. And when you reset your state, you stop dragging old energy into a brand new week where it has absolutely no business being.
What's your Sunday Reset?
I'm not asking you to copy mine - maybe yours is completely different, and I love yours already, even though I haven't heard it yet. But here are a few questions to help you figure it out:
What's the one environment that drains you when it's chaotic? Your inbox, your desk, your car, your kitchen? That's probably your starting point.
What would "set up" actually look like for you? Not perfect. Just working-for-you instead of against-you.
Is there something, anything, that resets you internally before Monday arrives? A walk. A bath. A long phone call with someone who fills you up. A practice that clears the week before so you can actually show up for the week ahead?
You don't have to do all of it. You don't have to do any of it my way. But I'd love for you to start thinking about Monday as something you arrive at with intention, not something that just happens to you while you're still unpacking last week.
The old energy doesn't belong in the new week.
The Rest Test continues - and it turns out that restoration doesn't only happen at a spa or on a yoga mat. Sometimes it happens by realising that taking care of your surroundings is also taking care of yourself.
Who knew housework could be an act of self-respect? (Me. Apparently. In my mid-forties. Better late than never, eh?)
I believe in you (always).
