How does it get even better than this?

Light-filled staircase symbolising growth, success and rising to new levels in business

By Tricia Scott.

As you may have noted from last week's Biz Love letter, I am currently obsessed with the theory of joy as a legitimate business strategy. And as I get deeper into the weeds (or flowers) on this, I’m noticing a pattern, and it's about how we unconsciously put a ceiling on the very things we’ve been asking for.

I'm talking about that good moment. The one where something works.

A client says yes.
An ah-mazing idea lands.
You feel proud and like, “oh… this is actually happening.”

And then, without even realising it, you cap it.

You say something like: “Wow. This is amazing but I don’t want to push my luck.”  But what is pushing your luck anyway? And who decided that was a thing?

What if ... instead of setting a limit, you asked: “How does it get even better than this?”

Not from a place of “nothing is ever enough.” But from openness. From expansion. From the powerful decision that this one good thing… doesn’t have to be the only good thing.

We treat joy like it’s fragile. Like a colourful soapy bubble that might disappear if we look at it too closely. We hold it carefully. We don’t quite touch it or stretch it. We just sort of admire it and expect that it’ll disappear with a pretty but short-lived ‘pop’ in a moment or two.

But what if we’ve gotten it all wrong? What if joy is actually a doorway?

What if that client isn’t the client… but the beginning of a whole new level of aligned work?

What if that one opportunity isn’t anywhere near the peak… It’s just a tiny piece of proof of what’s now available to you?

What if the thing you’re celebrating right now… isn’t the finish line, it’s the invitation?

I’ve been challenging myself with this a lot lately and asking, “How does it get even better than this?” Fair warning, it’s a little bit uncomfortable at first because your brain will try to shut it down immediately.

“Don’t be greedy.”
“Be grateful for what you have.”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

But expecting more doesn’t take anything away from gratitude. It actually deepens it because now you’re not just grateful for what is, you’re open to what else could be.

So as you head into this week, I want you to notice the good stuff.

The wins.
The ease.
The moments that feel aligned, calm, exciting, fun or powerful.

And instead of stopping there, ask yourself: “How does it get even better than this?”

Let it expand. Let it surprise and delight you. Let it be so much bigger than the version you originally imagined. Because you’re not here to build a business that peaks once and plateaus. You’re here to evolve.

And that evolution starts with allowing things to be even better than you planned.

It’s time to raise the bar.

I believe in you (always).
