Fortune Favours the Fabulous
By Tricia Scott.
If you’re reading this in the first days of January, let me guess: you’re back at your desk, coffee in hand, multiple tabs open… reminding yourself that you don’t actually need to have your entire year mapped out by lunchtime.
Good. Because you don’t.
By the time the festive season rolls around, most of us are beyond ready for a break. And yet, if we’re honest, it’s rarely the restorative pause we imagine. Before the out-of-office goes on, there’s the full-on mental gymnastics to contend with: lists, logistics, food plans, gift plans, people plans, plans for the plans plans… all neatly stacked on top of a year that already asked a lot of us.
Lovely things, yes. Restful? No.
So it’s no surprise that the space between Christmas and back to reality feels like a blur of mismatched days, pyjama chic, and the strange sensation of waking up on a random January morning thinking, What just happened?
And then—boom—we’re back. Emails. Expectations. And an online world that appears to be absolutely thriving while you’re still checking that it’s actually Monday.
Let me say this clearly: if getting back into the swing of things feels heavy, you’re not behind, you’re human.
Social media loves a dramatic “new year, new me” moment. But remember: it’s a highlight reel, not a life. If something inspires you, take it with you. If it makes you feel rushed, inadequate, or induces anxiety, scroll on. You owe it none of your energy.
Your time. Your pace. Your way.
If this feels like it’s written for you, then take this as your reminder: there are no rules you’re required to follow here. The obsession with January being the moment you must have your life, business, body, mindset, and vision fully sorted is boring at best and harmful at worst.
A year isn’t won or lost in the first week. It’s shaped deliberately, and imperfectly - day by day.
You already know what to do next. You don’t need another notebook to christen with good intentions. You don’t need to “get ready” for the next six weeks. You don’t need another course, another framework, another, well, anything.
You need courage. Quiet, steady courage.
Skip the endless preparation. Do the thing that’s been nudging you. Start small if you must, just start.
Fortune favours the fabulous.
I believe in you. Always.
