MEET LINDSAY NAHMIACHE - JIVE PR + DIGITAL

Lindsay Nahmiache is a big deal.

Multi-award-winning co-founder of Jive PR + Digital, mother, entrepreneur and mentor Lindsay spends her time accumulating air miles flying between Jive’s Los Angeles and Vancouver offices and has a skill for one-handed diaper changes. Having worked for E! Entertainment in London and also Bollywood and with a truckload of communications experience, she is now the best in the business when it comes to helping companies create financial and social impact in the brand and entertainment industries.

An adviser for UBC (University of British Columbia) on course curriculum for Digital Communications, a mentor for FWE (Forum for Women Entrepreneurs), and co-founder of the not-for-profit Projecting Change Film Festival as well as working tirelessly towards fostering entrepreneurship and financial literacy in youth. This powerhouse of a woman built a financial literacy app for children aged 2-4 teaching the importance of saving (Pogo Pig Savings). She also mentors groups of youth entrepreneurs, 15-17 years old, through TiE Global. A true pioneer, I am in no doubt whatsoever that there really isn’t anything this lady can’t do.

Over to you Lindsay…

SO, LINDSAY, WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

Insatiably curious and love diving deep into topics that stretch and challenge my perceptions. I am originally Canadian, spent six years living and working in London, UK for E! Entertainment and then in Mumbai, India in the Bollywood film industry. I currently live in Los Angeles.

I've had my agency for 10 years and we specialise in consumer brand and the entertainment industry. I'm obsessed with my two-year-old son and spend my time travelling between Jive's LA and Vancouver offices. If I'm not accumulating air miles or doing one-handed diaper changes, I can be found in the yoga studio or at home enjoying the health benefits of a good cab sav.

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU CHECK IN YOUR BUSINESS DAILY?

My emails.

YOUR WORK WITH JIVE PR + DIGITAL IS DIVERSE TO SAY THE LEAST, YOUR WORK ALLOWS YOU TO MIX WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY. HOW DO YOU KEEP TRACK (AND STAY SANE) WITH SO MUCH GOING ON?

I thrive on of variety and controlled chaos. However, to balance it, I take mini-solo breaks every year for 2-3 days and I meditate.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE CRITICISM?

I love healthy criticism, it helps me identify blindspots and up my game. I actually just wish I got more of it, no one wants to tell the CEO what they really think! We try and implement 360 reviews once a year to get this necessary feedback.

You do need to check the source of the criticism, if it's someone you respect, take it to heart, if it's not, then scan it for relevance and decide what you keep.

YOU HAVE BEEN RECOGNISED AS ONE OF THE 100 MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN THE FINANCIAL POST, ENTERPRISING WOMEN OF THE YEAR, TOP 40 UNDER 40 AND PROFIT: TOP FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS AND AMBASSADOR TO UN FOR WOMEN'S ENTREPRENEURSHIP. THAT’S QUITE THE LIST OF ACCOLADES. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED AND RESPECTED IN YOUR FIELD OF EXPERTISE?

Old - ha. Jokes aside I'm very proud of the accomplishments I've made but what I have realised through this achievement is that they don't define you (or fill you). You need to be happy with yourself and believe in your value - no outside validation is going to fix what is an inside job.

HOW WOULD YOUR BEST FRIEND DESCRIBE YOU?

A positive bully. I tend to 'peer pressure' people into things I think would be good for them. For Example; if they want to look for a new job, or take a cool trip, go on a solo retreat, etc. As soon as I hear someone saying what they would 'love to do one day' I tend to bully them into doing it sooner than later.

WHO OR WHAT ARE YOU MOST THANKFUL FOR?

My son.

YOU ARE MENTOR FOR THE FORUM FOR FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS AND CLEARLY PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING WOMEN ACHIEVE WITHIN THEIR CHOSEN CAREERS. WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF BUSINESS ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

Think Big. Thinking small requires the same amount of effort, if not more.

Aim high and fall short vs aiming short and succeeding.

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND DIFFICULT ON YOUR JOURNEY?

Getting all the things I want to do done. I suffer from shiny spoon syndrome and I want to try it all.

WHAT’S YOUR TOP TIP FOR OUR AWESOME FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS READING THIS ARTICLE?

Get a business therapist. I have one on retainer and it was a game-changer. As soon as I sorted out my inner world in relation to BUSINESS, everything started changing.

It's my secret sauce and everyone needs it.

YOU HAVE TEAMS BASED IN LOS ANGELES, TORONTO AND VANCOUVER; CAN YOU GIVE OUR READERS YOUR TOP TIP FOR MANAGING MULTI-SITE TEAMS?

Minimal but effective tools. We use slack with specific guidelines, zoom and google drive. We had a bunch of other tools but were getting buried in the admin so went instead with the 'less is more' philosophy and so far it's working great. We also rolled out EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) and it has put a simple but effective structure in place.

WHAT’S THE NUMBER ONE PLAYED SONG ON YOUR IPOD?

One Republic - I Lived

WHAT DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE?

The only regret I'll ever have is if I didn't try something I wanted to. I rather fail than wonder 'what if'

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK OR FAVOURITE PODCAST RECOMMENDATION FOR OUR FEMALE CEO MEMBERS?

Breaking the habit of being yourself - Joe Dispenza

WHAT MAKES YOU TRULY HAPPY AND HOW DO YOU HANDLE DOWNTIME?

I love launching and growing brands. I truly love bringing a vision to life and watching it grow. In my downtime, I play with my two-year-old son and have long, deep convos with friends over vintage vino.
