Possibility Is Contagious

Ambition has a funny way of rubbing off on us. Sometimes one conversation with someone doing something brave is enough to make your own next move feel a little more possible.

These last week's have been full of brilliant women. Which is exactly how I like it at The Female CEO HQ.

We’ve been getting the September magazine issue ready and having some fabulous conversations with women who are about to feature in it.

Women building businesses, changing direction and doing things that are ambitious, interesting, a little bit terrifying and, in one case, involving being one of the strongest women in the WORLD.

(Not even kidding.)

And every time I have a run of conversations like this, I notice the same thing. My own sense of what’s possible gets bigger.

Why?

Because possibility is contagious.

Spend enough time around people who are doing brave things and your own excuses start to sound less convincing.

What courage wakes up in you

You hear someone talk about the thing she almost didn’t do.

The opportunity she almost didn’t take.

The idea she backed before anyone else even understood it.

And somewhere in the middle of the conversation, your own brain starts going:

Hang on. What am I playing safe with? What have I been telling myself is too big, too soon or too difficult?

That doesn’t mean copying somebody else’s version of success. It means letting their courage remind you of your own.

I think that’s one of the most underrated things about being surrounded by ambitious women. We don’t only swap contacts, advice and recommendations. We expand each other’s sense of what’s possible.

There is still plenty of year left

And this is the point in the year where it’s very easy to start mentally drifting towards Christmas, next year, January — the future version of ourselves who will apparently have all her ducks beautifully lined up.

That can be a little dangerous. 

There is still plenty of year left.

Conversations to have.

Things to try.

Chances to surprise yourself.

So maybe this week you don’t need another strategy. Maybe you need a great conversation with someone who reminds you what bold looks like. Someone whose ambition rubs off on you a little (or a lot) and makes your own next move feel possible.
