Woman in white robe holding mug — the freedom to rest when self-employed

By Tricia Scott

Today’s Biz Love Letter is being written live from my bed, under a heated blanket, with a head cold that has absolutely no respect for my schedule.

Glamorous CEO life, amiright?

Funnily enough, despite my head feeling like a 16lb bowling ball, I’m feeling quite grateful. Because one of the massively underrated perks of working for yourself is that  you don’t have to ask anyone for permission to rest.

No awkward call to HR.
No guilt about letting the team down.
No dragging yourself into an office pretending you’re fine while Googling “can sinus pressure actually explode your head?”

You just… listen to your body.

Today, that means a lot of herbal tea and honey and a laptop balanced on a pillow while I check in with you.

If you’ve been here a while, you already know I love a good lesson, and today’s is this:

The businesses we build for ourselves aren’t just about income, visibility, or strategy. They’re about freedom.

Freedom to design a life that works for us.
Freedom to move more slowly when we need to.
Freedom to be human.

And if you’re in a season where that freedom still feels far away — know you’re not behind. We all build this thing step by step.

Speaking of women showing up and building things in their own way…

We recently had International Women’s Day, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the women around my own table.

But the women who:

answer the late-night “I have an idea…” voice notes
tell you the truth when you need it
celebrate your wins like they’re their own
remind you who you are when you momentarily forget

If you have women like that in your life or business, take a moment to appreciate them. They’re the real infrastructure behind so many of the things we build.

And speaking of things we’re building…

And excitingly… Season 3 bookings are now open.

If you’ve been thinking about sharing your story, your expertise, or your perspective with a global audience of women in business, this is your invitation, and we’d love to hear from you.

I’m off to make another cup of honey-and-apple-cider-vinegar-laden tea and continue to be furious at my sinuses.

I believe in you (always).
