That Girl Meets Dr. Michele Leno
By Natasha Lee.
Some encounters are so divinely aligned that you can only say God orchestrated it. That was the case when I, That Girl Natasha Lee, met the powerhouse herself, Dr. Michele Leno.
Dr. Leno isn’t just a therapist; she’s one of Detroit’s most influential voices in mental health, business, and community advocacy. She’s an award-winning leader, recognized with the Lifetime President’s Award under the Biden-Harris Administration for her outstanding commitment to the community and philanthropic efforts—presented by Being That Girl. She has also received the 313 Heroes Award from the Detroit Pistons and recognition from numerous notable organizations and publications. Her work as a therapist, entrepreneur, and thought leader continues to shape the culture of healing and influence in Detroit and beyond.
We first met at a gala, an unforeseen political affair I hadn’t even planned to attend. But God had a bigger plan. Dr. Michele was there, and in a moment when I needed her assistance, she was that calm, reassuring force. From that night forward, we clicked instantly and became the best of friends.
Since then, our bond has been unshakable. We’ve supported each other not only professionally but also personally, discovering fine dining together, attending Detroit’s most exclusive and influential events, and most importantly, laughing, dancing, chatting, and embracing authentic vibes wherever we go. Sisterhood is real, even in adulthood, and our friendship is living proof that it’s possible.
“When Natasha and I met, it felt like we had known each other for years. Our spirits clicked instantly, and I knew this was a sisterhood that would grow beyond business and into something deeply personal,” Dr. Leno shares.
“The beauty of this journey is that it’s not just about what we do, but who we are to each other. Friendship at this level is rare—and it’s one of my greatest blessings.” – Natasha Lee
Dr. Leno carries herself with grace, wisdom, and strength. She’s approachable yet powerful, deeply committed to her work, but also deeply committed to her circle. Being friends with her is like sitting front row to a masterclass in balance, excellence, and authenticity.
Q&A with Dr. Michele Leno
You’ve accomplished so much and impacted so many lives. What keeps you grounded and motivated?
My faith in God and my responsibility to the people I serve. Every time I sit with someone who’s hurting, I’m reminded that this work isn’t about me—it’s about them. That keeps me humble and focused.
You’re often recognized for your philanthropy and influence. What does giving back mean to you?
Giving back is part of who I am. It’s not just an action; it’s a way of life. Whether through my practice, my nonprofit involvement, or simply showing up for someone in need, giving back allows me to walk in purpose.
We’ve created so many beautiful memories together—from galas to late-night laughs. How do you define sisterhood in this stage of life?
Sisterhood is about showing up without conditions. It’s sharing joy, holding space for the hard moments, and celebrating wins like they’re your own. What we’ve built is rare, and it’s a reminder that adulthood doesn’t mean you can’t create new bonds that are real and lasting.
