As a Personal Style Coach, I'm often asked to collaborate on photo shoots from for professionals or solo entrepreneurs. One of the key questions I'm often asked before the shoot takes palace.

What Should I Wear?

Firstly, it differs from shoot to shoot, it also depends on the location, if It's in a studio or on out on location will have an influence on your wardrobe.

Here are a few simple tips to help with the what should I wear?

Did you know what you wear is an important part of how confident you may feel about yourself.

One of the great fashion designers Yves Saint Lauren – once quoted; “I have always believed that fashion was not just about making women more beautiful, but it was to reassure them and give them confidence” Even the famous Yves Saint Lauren knew the correlation between clothing and how it makes us feel. Your wardrobe can have a huge impact on how you feel and it isn’t as frivolous as you may think. Your wardrobe contains numerous channels of various versions of ourselves. There have been countless studies, all over the world, from Science to Psychology to help understand more about our relationship between our mind and the clothing we gravitate towards.

There’s such a big huge misconception that age and fashion don’t mix well together as we get older, we are less interested in looking and feeling good…

Well that’s absolute crap!

I don’t know about you, but I have always dressed for me, sorry but it’s true. I never think I can’t wear something because I’m in my late 40s, or someone says I’m too old to wear that.

Hell no!

Fashion Vs Style which would you choose?

Fashion is a popular style at a particular moment, like a trend which only last as long the season it was meant for. You wear the same or similar clothing items that are seen in stores, fashion magazines and advertisements. However, style is all about your individuality, your personality it’s unique to you the wearer. With fashion, it’s on the clothing, the items deemed to be fashionable and with style, it’s on you the person. I think there’s a great misunderstanding when it comes to the word style and what it actually is.

When it comes to creating great style there are so many factors to take into consideration. Colours, patterns, styles and cuts all work together to create your look. Confidence is also a major and often overlooked, factor in bringing it all together.

As a style coach I find more and more that my clients are talking about the C word (Confidence). I even wrote a book called “Boost Your Confidence” with tools and techniques designed to get you some of that self-confidence you deserve. I think personal confidence is one of the most crucial parts to finding your optimum style, it allows you to be creative and express your individuality by having fun with outfits, fashion and trends.

Here are a few of my favourite ways to give your comfort zone a kick in the butt when it comes to your personal style…

Before we talk about why updating your wardrobe is crucial to you and your business, did you know that on average women only wear around a quarter of their entire wardrobe, I can hear you saying as you read this “OMG that’s crazy!”

However, it’s very true.

When it comes to you and your workplace wardrobe, you need to think of yourself as the CEO of your style. We use lots of sensory information to quickly access whether or not to work with someone in this very visual society, and how we dress plays a big part in this decision.

It really doesn’t take long for another person to form an opinion about you and your business. Research shows it can take a 10th of a second for people to form an opinion from a first impression.

A tenth of a second!

So, what are these all important first impressions based upon? It comes down to communication.

Interview SOS - Dressing for interview

We’re all told never to judge a book by its cover, however when you are applying for a position I’m afraid to say it’s part of the interviewing process. It doesn’t matter which industry you decided to work in, your attire is still a crucial part of the interview process, it’s just as vital as your patter. We live in a very visual world now, in a nano second a first impression is already being formulated on your appearance alone. Now we know the big conundrum is always what to wear for a job interview, the best advice is always dress for the industry in which you’re interviewing for, that way you’ll feel super confident.

the psychology of personal style

When I was young I used to watch my mum getting dressed in these amazing outfits that shimmered, sparkled and looked every inch of stylish. It was like having my own little piece of Hollywood right in the middle of my home. I think my mum educated me on the mechanics of styling and fashion. I learnt early on that you could really express yourself not only through positive body language but also through the art of your wardrobe.

overcoming negative thoughts

I’ve recently had my book “boost your confidence” published into print which I’m so excited about and I was having a chat with a friend about confidence and negative thoughts when it dawned on me that I needed to do a blog on this subject.

We all get them! Even me and I’m one the most positive people you will ever meet! But we get plagued by these little monkeys that sometimes just show up to play mind games with us turning our beliefs and confidence upside down...

arriving in style

Well all know that celebrities seem to look fresh and glamorous even after a long-haul flight. But for the rest of us the dry air on the plane, lack of the sleep and the stress that modern day travelling gives us no wonder we look like that less red carpet ready. What if I was to tell you these tips on arriving in first class style...

spring into action with your wardrobe

Spring has well and truly arrived on our doorstep I thought we’d kick it off with indulging in a good clean out of your wardrobe. I think for most it’s a place that can be a magnet for stuff that’s reached its finale clothing call or just stuff that doesn’t belong to your wardrobe like the dogs/cat’s toys...

finding swimwear to flatter

We all know that swimwear can fill us with dread and fear, I know it has with with me the past, most of us are likely to have some negative thoughts about our body when it comes to bikinis, yeah even me. So, I want you to forget about the negative and try to see positives, as with lot’s of us there are part’s we love..
