Staring out in your fitness journey can be overwhelming, if you’re new to fitness or have tried in the past but just can’t seem to make it stick, you may not even know where to begin. There are so many options out there and you can feel a little lost.

I’m going to give you my simple steps to incorporate fitness into your life and make, fun, easy and most of all part of your lifestyle.

Number 1 - Find something you enjoy. This is so important! If you don’t enjoy what you do, you won’t do it, simple. I used to run, I HATED running! but I used to make myself do it, which led to me dreading it every time and eventually giving up. Then I started the gym, I would go on the bike for 20 minutes, run on the treadmill a little (again running, so I hated it) maybe go on the stepper, and do some sort of arm bike (probably has a proper name but arm bike will do). Safe to say, that didn’t last long. Then I found weights and loved how strong they made me feel, I loved that you could see your muscles working straight away. That is where my love for fitness started.

You may have to try a few different things before you find what you enjoy, but don’t ever force yourself to do something you don’t love otherwise it wont be sustainable.

Number 2 - Don't overdo it. In the beginning its easy to say “I’ll do the gym 2 hours a day 6 days a week” you feel motivated and ready and nothing can stop you. However, eventually things will start to come up, you’ll be too busy and the whole thing will go out of the window. It will feel stressful to try and fit all of that in. Start small, small actions over a period of time = results, it's the compound effect. If you start by doing 3 days a week of 20 minutes of exercise this is more doable and you’re more likely to show up.

Number 3 - Schedule it in your diary. Find a time in the day where you feel like you could fit it in and schedule it with yourself. Set a reminder on your phone and show up. If we plan ahead we are more likely to succeed. Sit down on a Sunday night and look through your week. Figure out what days and times are best and get it penciled in.

Number 4 - Treat yourself. Get yourself some well fitting workout clothing. New workout gear always gets me motivated, looking good instantly makes you feel more confident. If I went to the gym in a baggy T and badly fitting trousers, I wanted to hide away and not be seen. If I wore something I felt good in I smashed my workouts and felt great and so much more confident.

Number 5 - Fall in love with the journey. We can get so caught up in the end results we can forget to be present and enjoy the journey. Fall in love with how exercise makes you feel. You may feel like you want to die in the moment but no one ever regrets a workout. I aways feel so happy and calm after a workout! Results can take time, so if we focus on aesthetics we can get a little disheartened, if we focus on how we feel, the results are instant! So next time you exercise think about how you feel, how does your body feel, how does your mind feel?

Establishing a fitness routine doesn’t have to be difficult, and anyone can get started. It does require work, dedication, sacrifice and time but its so worth it. The benefits of living a healthy lifestyle are huge and I can guarantee that you will fall in love with it the more you do it.

With much love and motivation,
